Matthew Henson State Park PDF Print E-mail

Matthew Henson is a relatively new Maryland state park, and it is the only state park in the Rock Creek watershed.  It is located in the Aspen Hill section of Montgomery County.

This stream valley park borders Turkey Branch, one of Rock Creek's major tributaries, and features a 4.2 mile, 8-foot-wide, hard-surface trail for hiking and biking.  The trail begins at an intersection with the Rock Creek Hiker-Biker Trail, near the intersection of  Veirs Mill Road and Edgebrook Road.

This is also the location of a $3.5 million Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) stream restoration project.  The project beautifully restored a section of Turkey Branch that had been highly degraded by a high volume of polluted runoff.  Click here for more information.
